Giving thanks

There’s a lot of good stuff happening right now, not that the national news channel outlets would ever let on, but as a reader of the Positive News magazine I can tell you that it is. From re-wilding projects to the ever growing trade in second hand clothing and a whole host of stuff in between, it’s happening worldwide.

It’s happening in the Eden Valley too!
Even by my standards this bench, before any renovation at all, looked beyond repair When I said as much to my husband, not normally known for any real kind of D.I.Y. enthusiasm beyond growing vegetables - not that I’m complaining about this, but even vegetables require shelves to sit on occasionally as opposed to my desk top or kitchen work table, he took up the gauntlet and set to work. I have to say I was impressed with the results. Even the neighbour, a man who likes ‘doing’ came round to admire it! All that remains is for me to produce a cake, a cup of tea and to thank him for his diligence, in saving us some money and using less of the earth’s resources than needed.

I would also like to note the garden share initiative in place at Penrith station, not only is it a work of art, guaranteed to brighten your day, it’s message is clear, work together, share our bounties and get growing. I thank them for the free seeds, which I will hopefully enjoy eating the fruits of in due course.

Growing your own food is like a licence to print money. On a local walk we noticed someone had planted a pear tree. Not in their garden but on a wide stretch of verge, and set nicely back from the road. One can only assume this is a gift, from the planter, to the rest of us, animals and birds included all of whom will find care and shelter within its’ branches and shade. I don’t know who they are but I thank them too for their thought for the future.

Whether these things be big or small, they all count, add up, and roll on, in this case, to be written about, hopefully read and who knows, to inspire.
